The North Wales Dragons Invitational report

Well, what can we say about the event that took place on 8th June 2013. Taking place indoors on the new state of the art 3G pitch in Colwyn Bay’s Parc Eirias arena on one of the hottest days of the year, the Dragons invitational was a great success.
The Colwyn Bay born Dragons sponsored by GAP Personnel invited 7 others teams to join them as they played for the Dragons Invitational Trophy. Joining in the fun, football teams from GAP personnel, Colwyn Bay FC, Parc Eirias, Total Tranmere, Barclays Bank, 7 Waves Radio and a team from North Wales Police.

The Dragons stood out amongst the crowd of teams as the brand new Raging Bull supplied kit displayed by the team for the very first time. We got off to a bad start with a 3-0 loss to the eventual winners of the Tournament Barclays Bank, but soon turned the bad spell around with wins over Colwyn Bay FC (1-0) Total Tranmere (3-2) and 7 Waves Radio (2-1) with goals from Martin Anderson, Barry Haydock, Dave Owen and Mark Williams. The Dragons were doing really well and were starting to look like serious contenders for the top spot until a match with North Wales Police saw the Dragons down two men as goal keeper Mike Goodman suffered a shoulder injury and captain Phil Jackson suffered a cut over the eye which forced both to retire from the tournament. We would go on to lose our final three fixtures against the police (2-3) Parc Eirias (0-1) and GAP (1-2). We would like to thank all of the teams involved in the tournament and we look forward to playing you all again in the future.

The evening event was held not far from the days tournament at the Clwyd Suite in Parc Eirias. Our host for the evening was the brilliant John Martin, who was on top form as ever, having the crowd in stitches with his perfect comedy timing. Also performing at the event was the talented duo of Abbey Stanley and Ben Brown from RARE Studios who covered songs from Little Mix and Coldplay amongst others including Abbey’s own song “Radio” which captured the audience instantly. The evening closed with an auction and a raffle prize give away, which included items such as a food hamper from Patchwork, bottles of wine, an Everton signed shirt by Johnny Heitinga and a signed framed photo of Roberto Mancini to name but a few.

The evening was closed by Co-Founder Chris Roberts thanking our sponsors GAP Personnel, our prefered kit supplier Raging Bull, our short sponsors  Team ES Racing and our program sponsor Free2Network. Thanking the football teams and the audience for their generosity throughout the day he announced that with all of their help we had managed to raise over £4500 for the various charities supported including our own Make-A-Wish UK. This is a huge success for the teams and we can not thank everyone involved enough for what they put into the days events.

So we have to ask . . . . . . . same again next year?

Until next time
Gaz Roberts – Co-Founder – 5
