The first ever Pier to Pier Walk by the North Wales Dragons has been deemed a complete success by the founders and participants of the walk. Taking place on a cool Saturday evening, the crowd of around 150 people began making there way from Colwyn Bay Pier to Llandudno Pier, a distance of 10 kilometers.
The walk marked the first anniversary of when our Co-founder of the North Wales Dragons, Chris Roberts, was rushed to hospital with a heart attack and was cared for by both departments, Chris had this to say about the care he received “I would like to offer my heart-felt gratitude to all the amazing staff at Glan Clwyd Hospital, particularly to those in the Cath lab and the Cardiac Care Unit. Particular thanks must go to Dr Subkovis, Dr Das, Shelley, Nige, Tina and all the rest of the backroom staff. Thank you for saving my life”.
Most of the crowd were wearing football tops and the colours of their chosen charity. The walkers were brilliant, chatting away telling everyone who they were supporting, showing great team spirit in willing each other along and others having fun while playing Pokemon Go along the way. It was also great to have the passing support of motorists and the local community.
There we so many charities represented, so many to name which was fantastic to see, great to see children walking for charity too, NSPCC, MacMillan Nurses, Awyr Las and many more.
There are a few people to thank for the bit they did, Hannah Roberts, Phillip Jackson, Paul David Cornwall and 3 year old Harper, Yvonne Ellis, Gareth Roberts for keeping an eye out making sure everyone was safe, Brett for being on the dreaded hill dishing out the water and Pete who traveled up from Birmingham, roaming along the prom, handing out water and being our first aider keeping an eye on everyone.
A special mention for Dave Ledward of North Wales Tweets who has given us a great deal of exposure and helping promote the event.
Thanks to Jannie Rawlinson of Classical Sounds 4U for also giving us the opportunity to promote or share the event.
We would like to thank Strathmore for supplying the much needed water for our walkers.
Thanks also to official media partners Tudno TV Videography who covered the event from start to finish with nothing being too much trouble for them.
Thank you to Gaz Jabeen at BollywoodBurnout Dance Classes for the quick warm up to get the circulation going.
We would love to thank you all individually, or reply to your amazing comments individually, but it would take forever, but please know that on behalf of North Wales Dragons we appreciate every single one of you and your valuable input.
Our youngest walker was 5 year old Leah Gilbert who walked to raise funds for the Princes Trust Wigs for Kids, Tracey Jones mum at 76 years old who was raising money for the Dragons Foundation, furthest distance traveled to the event was by Ryan Gilbert & Elaine Gilbert who came from Ayr, Scotland, a distance of 275 miles.
To everyone who was there or donated, you are all amazing!
For those who took part in the walk and would like to have something to show for your achievement, we have created a certificate which you can now download and print – Pier to Pier certificate
Will we be doing the same again next year? Yes we shall.
