The North Wales Dragons travelled to Wirral on the 20th of October to take on Rockville Wallasey. The team was struck by some last minute withdrawals which meant adjustments being made to the squad but were boosted by new recruits Cal White and Graceson Appleyard, fielding a strong 12 man team.
Starting at the unusual time of 2:15 the squad kicked off away from the sun being chased down early by the Rockville forwards. The Dragons were staying strong until a miss hit from the keeper was met with a well placed shot into the bottom corner. Not to be put off by this, the team kept their heads up and ploughed on, being met with some heavy tackles from the opposition. Graceson Appleyard making his debut took on a great pass from Steve Roberts and netted his first goal for the team. The Dragons were on a high after the goal, attacking what now looked a struggling back four and were through again moments later as Mark Williams netted what would have been his fifth goal for the Dragons, but was ruled offside by the referee who failed to see the right back playing him on.
The scores stayed the same until half time. The Dragons battled well against the Rockville men in the second half, with a few near misses for both sides. A back four change allowed Medwyn Lewis to push forward and net his first goal for the Dragons, a thunderous strike that sailed past the keeper. Rockville were rocked by this and were falling victim to the Dragons offside trap time after time.
The 90th minute saw the equalizer from a corner, punched out by the Dragon’s keeper Dwain Jones, it was met by an oncoming Rockville player. The Dragons didn’t have time to attack again as the final whistle blew finishing Rockville Wallasey 2-2 North Wales Dragons.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank Rockville Wallasey for their sportsmanship and hospitality after the game. We hope to see you all on the field again very soon.
