Dragons Suffer Heavy Defeat On Merseyside

A depleted and tired looking North Wales Dragons team took just 12 players to Merseyside to face a very good Total Tranmere side this past weekend. A 10-0 defeat was dished out by TT in baking conditions on the Wirral. The Dragons who were missing 7 regular player, including top scorer Mark Williams and influencial centre half Colin Roberts - were put on the back foot straight away and only really started to threaten the TT goal early in the second half.

We will take the positives from the game - building up bonds with other teams and another 90 minutes under our belts. We look forward to playing TT again very soon.

The North Wales Dragons founders visited Oulton Park this past weekend for rounds 10, 11 and 12 of the British Touring Car Championships. Team ES Racing had given the Dragons the opportunity to display their logo on their fantastic Chevrolet Lacetti for the rest of the season which will be shown on ITV4 live to millions of viewers.

We wish to thank Chris James for his generosity as space on the car is highly valuable to the team for sponsorship and we would also like to thanks Melanie Collins for sorting it all out.

Excellent Dragons Performance Goes Unrewarded
Total Tranmere 4-3 North Wales Dragons

The patched up and bare boned squad of North Wales Dragons turned up beneath the shadow of the Kop at Prenton Park, we were particularly nervous about the outcome being as though we had just a squad of eleven men and a goalkeeper who was an outfield player.

The Dragons kicked off uphill, against a blustery wind and it wasn’t long before the Dragons took an early lead from Mark “Berger” Williams, however, déjà vou from last year’s Celtic Trophy appeared In the form of the ref giving a penalty for the home side as our stand in keeper was adjudged to have felled the attacker. Matty Holden stepped up and slotted the penalty home.

We were happy with our first forty five minutes work at 1-1 and decided to keep the formation as it was, but the happiness was short lived as Total Tranmeres’ Matty Holden hit a low drive passed the keeper to make it 2-1.

Using the hill and the wind we managed to break and a pin point cross found Dragons debutant Leigh Wards’ head duly thumping it past the keeper.

At 2-2 things were pretty deadlocked with Tranmere having a few shots firing just wide and the Dragons going close on a couple of occasions, Dave Owen going close with a looping shot and other Dragons debutant Jodey Brown Williams hitting the crossbar.

Tranmeres substitutions made a difference as they once again went ahead, this time taking their turn to find an accurate cross which was headed home with aplomb by their Liam McMullen.
The Dragons got back to make it all square at 3-3 as Barry Haydock capitalised on a loose ball putting it home.

The Dragons visibly tired and Tranmere stepped in to overdrive once more as Dave Brilley rifled a shot off the underside of the cross bar which Mike Goodman was unfortunate not to keep out, five minutes later he stopped the opposition finishing off the game completely with a strong one handed save.

At ninety minutes we finished the losing side at 4-3 but the eleven players can be proud of their efforts, they did ever so well against a great bunch of lads in Total Tranmere.
Hopefully we will do something with them in the future but until then, we thank them for their hospitality today and wish them well in all their future games.
